Letter from the Principal

September/October 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are off to a great start.  To think we are already in our 3rd week of school.  The children are working diligently in their subjects.  Students in grades K-8 are taking the standardized testing (NWEA) on the computer.  Students continue to do well in following the 3 W’s—wash hands, wear masks and watch distancing.  I am so proud of them.

Just a reminder to make sure you go on your FACTS Family Portal to make sure all your information is correct.  Please make sure your address, emergency phone numbers and any information pertaining to your family is correct.  You can update this information on your own as needed and it will go directly to our school portal.


Students may wear their summer uniforms until the Tuesday after Columbus Day; after that date regular school uniform pants for the boys and jumpers or skorts for the girls are required.  

Students should wear gym uniforms and sneakers on gym day.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS NEEDED:  We are seeking individuals who would like to substitute teach.  Please let us know if you would like to sub.  Please indicate grade level and if there is a specific day you can work.

LAST CALL FOR CATALOG ORDERS:  If you are interested, you can place an order online or send in your order.  We will place the final orders by next Friday.

WALKATHON INFORMATION—This year we are planning on having our walk-a-thon for grades K-8 at SHEDD PARK on Friday, Oct. 1.  Students will dress in their gym uniform, will be bussed to Shedd Park around 9:00 and do activities and walk around the track until 11:15.  Pledges will be taken.  We ask each family to get at least $25 worth of pledges per child.    Cawley Stadium was not available for all our activities.  ICS will provide snack and water to all students so students will not have to bring their backpacks to school.  DISMISSAL WILL BE FROM SHEDD PARK STARTING AT 11:20.  There will be a bus returning to school for students who will go to Kids Club for the afternoon.  Kids Club will be open from 11:30-5 p.m.  See enclosed form to sign to let us know how your child will get home that day.


FRI., Sept.  24 - Picture Day -Students may dress up in regular clothes for their pictures.   Forms were sent home if you are interested in purchasing pictures.  Please check your child’s backpack for the form.  If you wish to order pictures, please choose the type of background, border and price package.  Group picture of siblings is allowed but please indicate this on the form and send a note to us.  A check must be made out to O’Connor Studio and must accompany order form.  When you receive the picture, if you do not like it, you may have retakes in November.

Thurs., Sept. 30 - SOCK AND HAT DAY TO KICK OFF THE WALK-A-THON.  Wear your favorite sock and hat with your uniform.  All Walk-a-thon pledges are due.                 

Fri, Oct. 1 - Walk-a-thon at SHEDD PARK…More information will be coming...Walkathon is from 9:30-11:15.  Half Day dismissal at 11:30.  Kids Club will be available from 11:30-5:00  p.m.  WALK-A-THON DRESS CODE:  children may wear their gym clothes.. IF RAINING, WE WILL DO THIS IN SCHOOL.

Wed., Oct. 6 - PLEASE NOTE:  THERE IS NO AFTERNOON BUSSING THIS DAY DUE TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAVING A HALF DAY AND WE DO NOT.  We will have our half day on Friday, Oct. 8 for Conferences.

Thurs., Oct. 7 - Progress Report Phone Conferences –Teachers will schedule times

BANKING BEGINS—A representative from  Jeanne D’Arc Bank will come and pick up children’s deposits.  Please know they will come every 2 weeks to pick up banking deposits if interested.  The children’s accounts receive 7 percent interest on their accounts.
